 Sports Illustrated gets the first story for sending me an early preview of this stunning six-page article that breakdown the Titans' 99-yard drive against the Cardinals last year. It's a huge piece by Jim Trotter in the newest issue, and is a mandatory read for every Titans fan. I can only run a few lines from it, but I thought these comments about the game-wining play show just how much 'Dinger trusts Vince these days:

Heimerdinger: &quot;We have not run that play in practice, in OTAs or in two-a-days since I&amp;rsquo;ve been back [with the Titans]. I knew Vince had run it as a rookie so he would know the read, but Hawk had never run the play, Kenny had never run the play, Nate had never run the play and Chris had never run the play... I knew it was the best route against the coverage that I could possibly call. So I felt good about it.

 The other big story yesterday was a report (which is now looking premature at best) that the Heisman Trust would ask for Reggie Bush's trophy back. In response, Vince Young's mother chimed in to repeat what Vince has said repeatedly: Vince probably deserved the award, but he has no interest in receiving it at the expense of Bush. I can understand that, especially since the cynical side of me says that Reggie just got popped doing what every elite college player who didn't come from means does at some point. Plus, I'm sure Reggie would trade that Heisman to be a part of the winning touchdown in the greatest college football game of the past half-century. Side note: the Heisman Trust meets the second Tuesday of each month, so if there is any decision coming on this issue look for it next week.
 It appears as though the talks revolving around Albert Haynesworth coming back to Tennessee have cooled off, and Fisher is saying he's plenty happy with the defensive line we have right now. I'll agree with that, but that doesn't mean you don't try to make it better if a reasonable opportunity falls in your lap.

 Congratulations to the NFL for grabbing their ankles while the Colts dictate the rules of the game in ways that best suit their personnel. The league managed to make a pretty simple rule change that kept officials safer into the most convoluted crap of a ruling I've seen them implement in a long time. Now if only the Colts can make it a rule that all of the refs know the Heimlich Maneuver they could quit blaming receivers and offensive linemen for their quarterback's big game failures.
 USA Today's Jim Corbett has 10 questions for the 2010 season, including can the Titans or Texans win the division over the Colts? Yes and no. That's a yes for us, and a no for the Texans. I'm still not giving them credit for squat until they do something.
 The Titans picked up Herb Donaldson for the practice squad yesterday after cutting LeGarrette Blount over the weekend, and they also signed the well-traveled second year tight end Carson Butler to the eight and final practice squad spot. Butler has recently spent time with the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, and New England Patriots.
 The Raiders are coming to LP Field on Sunday, and All-World CB Nnamdi Asomugha says their defense isn't quite hitting peak performance yet. I don't know if that means there is a problem, or if it means he thinks they can get even better. Either way, I expect it to be a long flight back home for Al's boys.
 PFW has a Rookie of the Year Meter going all ready, for as much as that's worth.

This will be part of an ongoing series where we take a look at each individual team we will face this season.
Chiefs fans will look to Todd Haley to right the ship in his second season as head coach in Kansas City.&amp;nbsp; After cleaning house in the front office in 2009, Haley and the Chiefs struggled through the season and ended up with one of the worst records in football.&amp;nbsp; But, there is hope.&amp;nbsp; Running back Jamaal Charles has CJ-like playmaking abilities, and we've seen what Matt Cassel can do with the right personnel around him.&amp;nbsp; Those two reasons alone give Chiefs fans hope, something that has been missing in recent seasons.
Follow me through the jump for a look at the Kansas City Chiefs 2009 Season, the offseason, and three keys to winning this matchup.

* stats from NFL.com and Footballoutsiders.com
There aren't many good things to take away from 2009.&amp;nbsp; This team was bad all year, going 4-12.&amp;nbsp; Really, the only thing good that came of this season was Jamaal Charles who was considered by many as the second best back in the NFL in the second half of last season.&amp;nbsp; Beyond that, this team struggled in all aspects defensively, and failed to establish a consistent passing game.
The Offseason:&amp;nbsp; Free Agency and The Draft
Scott Pioli and the front office weren't very active this offseason.&amp;nbsp; The only notable pickup was veteran running back Thomas Jones, who will provide a good change of pace to the speedy Charles.&amp;nbsp; You can view the rest of the free agent pick ups here.
The Chiefs had a few excellent draft selections.&amp;nbsp; Their first pick was used to select Tennessee standout Eric Berry (S).&amp;nbsp; His playmaking capabilities should create an immediate impact on this defense.&amp;nbsp; The team also had two second round selections which were used on Dexter McCluster (RB/WR) and Javier Arenas (CB).&amp;nbsp; Both of these picks seemed to be good value, as some boards had them as high as first round picks.&amp;nbsp; You can view the rest of the teams selections here.

Three keys to winning
1.&amp;nbsp; Run.&amp;nbsp; Give the ball to CJ and let him do his thing.&amp;nbsp; No need to complicate things.

2.&amp;nbsp; Run some more.&amp;nbsp; Vince could pass the ball 10 times this game and we'd still win.&amp;nbsp; Let CJ inflate his numbers in this matchup.
3. Load the box.&amp;nbsp; The KC running backs scare me a lot more than Matt Cassel.&amp;nbsp; Put 8 guys in the box and let KC try to beat us through the air.
I think Scott Pioli will have this team moving in the right direction within the next few years.&amp;nbsp; That said, they still have too many holes.&amp;nbsp; Titans roll here 35-17 and CJ gets 200+ yards.
Looking ahead:&amp;nbsp; In week 17, the Titans will play the Colts in Indy to close out the season.&amp;nbsp; You can check out that preview&amp;nbsp;here. Titans lose that one 31-27.&amp;nbsp; That leaves this team at 10-6 at the end of the year and in the mix for a wildcard spot.

Adrian Peterson went on the Dan Patrick show today and said that he thinks he is the best running back in the NFL&amp;nbsp; When Patrick asked him if Chris Johnson does anything better than him he responded:

&quot;No, [he's] not faster, stronger, anything,&quot; Peterson&amp;nbsp;said. &quot;You&amp;rsquo;ve got to understand you&amp;rsquo;re talking to a guy &amp;hellip; that&amp;rsquo;s just the mentality that I have. I have ultimate respect for the guy and he&amp;rsquo;s a heck of a player. I remember at one point and time me talking on the phone to Chris Johnson.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;He was telling me, &amp;lsquo;I&amp;rsquo;m just a big fan of yours. I like your style.&amp;rsquo; Some [of the] advice that I gave him was, &amp;lsquo;I&amp;nbsp;play this game to be the best player ever to play the game. That&amp;rsquo;s my mentality.'&quot;

And then he fumbled the phone....
But seriously, AP might be stronger than CJ but there is no way he is faster.

The Washington Post's Jason Reid is reporting Redskins coach Mike Shanahan&amp;nbsp;ruled out a trade&amp;nbsp;happening this week&amp;nbsp;regarding Albert Haynesworth. He said &quot;We've heard all these rumors and speculation...Albert will be with our team on Sunday,&quot; but did not discuss further.
The Redskins have reportedly been in discussions with the Titans regarding the former All-Pro defensive tackle. Shanahan did not completely rule out a trade happening, but he did lessen the chances of it happening. I think if anything happens, it will at least happen by Week 4.

    <title>Top AFC South Quotes Entering Week 1</title>
    <description>by John OehserFiled under: Colts, Jaguars, Texans, Titans, AFC SouthA look at a few of the best quotes from Around the AFC South Wednesday, the first day of weekly media availability of the NFL.

FROM HOUSTON (0-0)

This week's opponent: Indianapolis Colts (0-0).

Game site: Houston.

Owner Bob McNair (via FoxSportsHouston.com): &quot;It's a very important game. Is it the end of the world if we don't win it? No, because we've got fifteen other games, but I think it'll be a good indication as to how much we've matured.&quot;

Coach Gary Kubiak: &quot;Their (the Colts') defense is one of the most underrated defenses in the game and has been for a long time. They're very consistent. They don't give up big plays. They play with great passion. They tackle well. Nobody rushes the passer better. That's always been a challenge for us.&quot;

FROM INDIANAPOLIS (0-0)

This week's opponent: Houston Texans (0-0).

Game site: Houston.

Center Jeff Saturday: &quot;This is what it's all about. From the end of the Super Bowl last year to now, this is what you prepare for - for Week 1, and setting a tempo for the season and for your team.&quot;

Quarterback Peyton Manning: &quot;I've always gotten excited for opening day. It's a new season. It's a new team. You have new players and you're kind of forming a new identity.&quot;

FROM JACKSONVILLE (0-0)

This week's opponent: Denver Broncos (0-0).

Game site: Jacksonville.

Cornerback Rashean Mathis (from Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union via Twitter): &quot;We can't be naive to the fact that this is one of the probably most important games of the franchise history . . . the ticket sales and all the hype: Are we staying here, are we not staying here? We know winning helps everything.''

Quarterback David Garrard (from Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union via Twitter) on Broncos reserve rookie quarterback Tim Tebow: &quot;If he gets into the game, that's great for him but I hope our defense goes out there and welcomes him to the league.&quot;

FROM TENNESSEE (0-0)

This week's opponent: Oakland Raiders (0-0).

Game site: Nashville.

 If you heard singing and what sounded like heel-clicking skipping about an hour ago it was probably just me reacting to the fact that CORTLAND FINNEGAN IS BACK AND HEALTHY! It even looks like he's going to get to play some in Thursday night's game against the Saints. It's always dicey returning from these soft-tissue injuries, but lets hope that neither Cort nor the team are rushing anything. We need that man 100% for every game we what to have even a chance of winning.
 Chris Johnson told Yahoo! scribe Michael Silver that he's graduated from hungry to greedy... but not in a bad way. I'll let he and Silver explain this gem:

With Johnson essentially tabling his contract demands until next offseason, he&amp;rsquo;s now focused on a third area of greed: helping Tennessee achieve the type of success it realized in 2008 (when the Titans started 10-0 and earned the AFC&amp;rsquo;s top playoff seed before falling to Baltimore) and fulfill the promise it displayed in the final 10 games of &amp;rsquo;09 (when Jeff Fisher&amp;rsquo;s team rebounded from an 0-6 start to win eight of its last 10).&quot;I let that go,&quot; Johnson says of his push for a new deal. &quot;I really can&amp;rsquo;t pay much more attention to it right now. The only thing I can really do is just come in and try to win a Super Bowl for this team.&quot;

 I heart Derrick Morgan so, so much already, and it sounds like Jim Washburn does too:

&quot;There&amp;rsquo;s one rush, in particular, that we use and it&amp;rsquo;s just painfully difficult to teach guys to do it,&quot; Washburn said. &quot;Kevin Carter taught it to me a long time ago, and the play (Morgan) missed a sack, he was &amp;ndash; stab-chop &amp;ndash; just a beautiful rush. I was just like, &amp;lsquo;Wow, that came easy. Just natural.
&quot;I thought that&amp;rsquo;s a real good thing. Seriously.&quot;

Follow us through the jump for lots of linky goodness and half the calories...

 Washburn was also talking about Jason Jones yesterday, and apparently last year's should injury resulted in Jones watching a lot of tape and fully embracing the off-season conditioning program. Good lord, if Jones was able to play like he did when he was out of shape and half-understanding what he was doing, he could be in for an absolute monster year. Stay tuned for a pie chart that proves that the healthier Jason Jones is, the less healthy opposing quarterbacks remain. It's a science fact, just like the benefits of shake weights.
 Continuing the defensive line focus, MJD at Shutdown Corner plays the underrated game, and Jacob Ford makes the list:

Tennessee Titans DE Jacob Ford &amp;ndash; With the departure of Javon Kearse, Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch,&amp;nbsp; the Titans' front four has become an anonymous &amp;ndash; though effective &amp;ndash; group. Ford has been the leader of the pack. The Titans drafted Derrick Morgan to be their sack specialist of the future, but Ford put up 5.5 sacks last year despite the fact that he played about half of the team's defensive snaps. In the short term, he's a guy to watch on Sundays and as an IDP threat in your fantasy leagues.

 If you listened to last week's MCM Radio then you're probably fully aware why I'm getting all the blame for the fact that Michael Roos and Leroy Harris are a little dinged up. Neither guy is expected to miss any time in the regular season opener though.
 See, told you it was that freakishly short week (Monday night to Saturday) that went a long way towards explaining why our guys looked so flat.
 This much I know is true: despite being perhaps the greatest personnel man of the past two decades, Bill Polian can really sound like a jack-off when he starts complaining to the media.
 The terribly-named Redksins Redskins might release gigantic WR Malcom Kelly as Mike Shanahan continues to put his stamp on that roster. Like most everyone else who puts on a Redksins uniform, Kelly has been a major disappointment since he was drafted in the second round out of Oklahoma in 2008, but a change in scenery may be just what the highly-talented 6'4&quot;, 226 pass catcher needs. I'd love to see the Titans make him an offer and see what he can bring to the team should he be cut loose.
 Also, a little PR birdie told me that the Sports Illustrated NFL Preview issue hits the stands today, and Peter King predicts the Titans to finish 7-9, with CJ2K earning OPOY honors.

As gramsey pointed out in his fanshot, the Titans have waived five players today as mandated by league rules.&amp;nbsp; These players include P Ricky Schmitt, CB Pete Ittersagen, LB Mike Rivera, DT Kareem Brown and WR Bobby Sewall.
As gramsey so lovingly pointed out in the above mentioned fanshot, I have already lost one player of 53 man projection in Mike Rivera.&amp;nbsp; Knowing that, I would add Nick Schommer to the list.&amp;nbsp; Not sure who gets the 54th spot for Gerald McRath.&amp;nbsp; Any suggestions?

 MCM Radio was hot fire last night as Jimmy, Gramsey and I dominated the internet radio ratings for Titans coverage in the 9:30 time slot for Wednesday, September 1st... or at least so I'm assuming. Check it out here for our thoughts on the Panthers/Titans snooze-fest, tonight's potential snooze-fest and who should be shaking in their boots over Saturday's cuts.
 Roster cuts are coming closer and closer, and it's weighing on pretty much everyone at this point. Fisher says the Titans are open to keeping four running backs, and special teams contributions will be a consideration in picking who stays and who hits the road. Of course any pair of the three at the bottom of the list (Blount, Pearman and Gado) could be picked to stay, or they could all be cut loose in favor of a vet that someone else cuts. I will say that this is the first I've heard about Blount being a liability in pass protection; coming from that Oregon-style spread offense I'd have thought that would be his strong suit.
 Chris Johnson is still saying Chris Johnson-like stuff for anyone who still cares. Of course the notable thing is when he says he want's 2,500 yards and the MVP, nobody with an IQ over 30 snickers a bit.

   Woe be unto Craig Stevens, who must endure a nickname linking him with perhaps the most annoying singer-songrwiter ever. I'm a huge fan of nicknames, but I could not abide that one if somebody put it on me.
 There will be a Comcast sponsored Titans Kick-off luncheon at the Wildhorse Saloon next Tuesday that's open to the paying public which may interest fans, mostly because Jeff Fisher will be a speaker, and he'll introduce the rookies... well at least the ones who survive Saturday's cut.
 You'd be wise to be checking in on the Yahoo! Team Report for the Titans once a week, because in all honesty they do a better job than a lot of the local writers in terms of summarizing the week's goings on and sprinkling in some over-looked tidbits. This time they come through by noting that Schommer has so impressed the coaches lately that he's been running as the second team strong safety ahead of Myron Rolle and not-really-a-safety Donnie Nickey.
 Guess who is the Saints' no. 2 quarterback now that the ancient Mark Brunnel is in New York: former-Titan Patrick Ramsey. Ramsey will be a pretty steady fixture tonight at LP Field as the Saints will rest most of their key starters.
 The return game has been a big focus point for coaching and evaluation, but unfortunately there haven't been a ton of chances for Williams and Mariani to ply their trade... mostly because the defense has been so stingy we haven't been getting scored this preseason. All in all, I'll take that any day, any time of the week.
 PFW pegs around 18 teams who could either be looking for a new starting QB next year, or should seriously consider developing a young, talented signal-caller for depth and future production. The Titans pop-up at number 11 on the list for all the reason's we've discussed with the non-VY believers over the off-season:

11. Titans &amp;mdash; Kerry Collins is a great backup, but he might leave via free agency. And Vince Young, as well as he played down the stretch, remains a somewhat uncertain commodity. Can you hand him the keys to the franchise for the next five seasons? I like his unique skills, but I think this question gets raised at season&amp;rsquo;s end.

 Looking to catch-up on the real off-season happenings on teams from across the NFL, but not looking to take it too seriously? Then I'll direct you towards this list of KSK 2010 NFL Prekkake posts.

Here were a few things that jumped out at me tonight:&amp;bull; Nice to see Vince Young get a TD pass, nice to see Brown back out there and nice to see Javon Ringer have a huge night. No matter what happens at the bottom of the RB depth chart (see below), we're in damned good position with the one and two.&amp;bull; MCM can not confirm reports that Metro Police are actively searching for the real Kenny Britt. I mean how far away are we from calling Britt 'mercurial'? He's had about the worst preseason of any healthy player I can think of, and that's a big knock to the offense.&amp;bull; If Britt can't get his head straight, I fully endorse putting Jared Cook in the slot. All preseason, when he's gotten the reps, Cook has looked like what we thought we were getting coming out of training camp last year.&amp;bull; You have to find a spot for LeGarrette Blount on the 53-man roster. He's raw, and he has&amp;nbsp; lot to learn, but Blount brings more to the table as a runner than Pearman or Gado. If pass blocking is the issue, then they can stick Hall back there in emergency situations for all I care.&amp;bull; Myron Rolle, maybe not so much. I hope they find a way to keep him, or that he passes waivers and makes the practice squad, but he looked bad tonight. The big pass that lead to the Roby TD largely happened because he bit viciously on that play-fake, which left Schommer to cover everything deep.&amp;bull; This defensive line from top to bottom is the best we've ever had in Nashville. Book it. If they stay healthy, and the secondary can cover for just a few seconds, they'll make life hell for every team we face.
&amp;bull; The deep pass from Rusty Smith was what we saw in practices from the rookie, so it's great to see him put that arm to better use in a game-like situation.&amp;bull; Marc Mariani is a lock as the returner, and he's showing a lot as a WR. Right now, he's ahead of Damian Williams in my book, though they're both going to be Titans come Sunday.&amp;bull; Mike Otto needs to get healthy, fast.Be sure to check back tomorrow morning for links, commentary and the Friday Jam!

    <title>QBs and Fantasy Football</title>
    <description>

Let's talk about QBs in fantasy football this year.&amp;nbsp; It has always been one of the toughest positions for me in a draft because I am usually not willing to take on early enough to get one of the best guys, and so I end up waiting forever because every time my pick comes around again all of the guys left on the board look the same to me.&amp;nbsp; I end up deciding I will get one next time, and that goes on for 5 rounds.&amp;nbsp;
In the last couple of years I have started looking at positions in tiers (I know that is not something new, but I have never really done it before) and looking at the QB numbers from last year I came up with the tiers after the jump:

Tier 1
Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and believe it or not Matt Schaub
Tier 2
Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger*, and Philip Rivers
Tier 3
Jay Cutler, Eli Manning Donovan McNabb, Jason Campbell
Tier 4
David Garrard, Kyle Orton, Carson Palmer*, Joe Flacco*
Tier 5
Matt Ryan*, Matt Cassel, Matt Hasselbeck, Chad Henne, Alex Smith
Again, that is based on last year's numbers.&amp;nbsp; Here are my comments- Rapelisberger has to go down a tier because he will miss 4 games.
Palmer, Flacco and Ryan will all move up at least 1 tier this year.&amp;nbsp; Ryan might move up two.
With the exception of the above mentioned tier movers, Vince Young is a better option than any of the guys in 4 and 5.&amp;nbsp; Book it!
Also keep in mind that you can get your CBS Fantasy Football league for half off by following this link, and don't forget that the award-winning CBSSports.com Fantasy Football Commissioner League is a highly popular fantasy option thanks to its high levels of league customization, its draft options (live, continuous or auction drafts supported), and its mobile phone accessibility, not to mention its historical archiving for future seasons and fast live scoring.

          Congratulations to um... everyone... who made the 2010 Tennessee Titans 53-ish man roster.

The full cut list is out in several locations (h/t to Wyatt and McCormick mainly) for the 2010 Titans squad, and there aren't any real stunners on it (see full list and prediction for the practice squad after the jump). A few throughts do jump out about who's left:
&amp;bull; Not sure if everyone has heard, but Jeff Fisher is openly threatening to deactivate Kenny Britt on game days, and start Lavelle Hawkins over him, if he can't get his head straight.
&amp;bull; Chris Johnson, Javon Ringer and LeGarrette Blount. That's a backfield you can win a lot of games with. I'm pumped about this, and I hope Blount continues to work hard and keep his head straight now that we've all taken the leap of faith.
&amp;bull; Ryan Durand, the OG from Syracuse the Titans kept the final pick of last year's draft Ryan Durad as the spare reserve offensive lineman, and since the roster also includes Velasco, Otto and Kropog, Durand could be the guy who gets bumped back to the practice squad after McRath comes off of his suspension (Keglar and Allred are no longer eligible for the practice squad, and I don't see them being straight cut). Still, congratulations to the young man for making it to the big leagues!
&amp;bull; Nick Schommer, Robert Johnson and Nickey will provide depth at the safety spot, and those of us who still believe will commence sacrificing trinkets to the football gods in the hopes that Rolle makes it through waivers.
Follow us through the jump for my prediction for the practice squad:

Bad move releasing him in my opinion. Who gets goal line carries now? Ringer? Hall? The Titans will probably pick up a veteran off the waivers in the next few days to fill the void.
