I've got my entry in. Pretty much no Chiefs should be expected to play a big role but I think Cassel can put up some decent yardage if the Steelers shut down the Chiefs run.

Looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers play the secrecy game as well. &amp;nbsp;This week S Troy Polamalu would not answer questions about his injured knee. &amp;nbsp;Head coach Mike Tomlin instructed him not to speak on the topic.
&quot;Who says there's even a real knee, first of all?&quot;
Well, okay then. &amp;nbsp;Knee injury or not Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Polamalu will not play against the Chiefs.
This is a major plus for the Chiefs. &amp;nbsp;The Steelers have only allowed 100 rushing yards on two occasions this season - both were games Polamalu missed.
So, one of the top safeties in the game will not play this weekend. &amp;nbsp;His replacement will be Tyrone Carter, who Polamalu says is a solid player.
&quot;There are a lot of strengths that Tyrone has that I lack and vice versa,&quot; Polamalu said. &quot;That's why every time I'm in the game, I come to the sidelines, he's in my ear about the previous drive and each play, and where I can improve and what to look out for.&quot;
This weekend, it'll be Polamalu on the sidelines getting in Carter's ear.

With each passing day it's looking like we should be more concerned with Mike Vrabel's availability for the Kansas City Chiefs the next several weeks than just this weekend. &amp;nbsp;Vrabel once again did not participate in practice due to a knee injury.
Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star thinks he might miss a few weeks.
He's almost assuredly going to be out this weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers. &amp;nbsp;Andy Studebaker appears in line to get his&amp;nbsp;first NFL start&amp;nbsp;in Vrabel's absence.
Three other Chiefs are in jeopardy of missing Sunday's game:

G/C Andy Alleman - He once again did not practice. &amp;nbsp;We're not even sure exactly what his injury is so his presence on Sunday is a big question mark.
RB Dantrell Savage - Savage hasn't participated all week, and another running back Tim Castille was signed, so don't expect Savage to play.
LB Justin Rogers - Herron hopped aboard the injury report yesterday with a thigh injury. &amp;nbsp;Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com&amp;nbsp;reports it does not appear he will play on Sunday.
***
Looney also noted that three tight ends - Leonard Pope, Brad Cottam and Sean Ryan - saw first team time today which means Haley may be making a decision on whether to keep an extra tight end active to stave off Pittsburgh's blitz defense.
After being the Chiefs No. 1 tight end, Ryan was replaced by Leonard Pope on the depth chart. &amp;nbsp;No word yet on who is coming out ahead between Ryan and Cottam.

Early on in the Kansas City Chiefs search for a new GM last winter owner Clark Hunt referenced the Pittsburgh Steelers as an organization that was doing it right. The Steelers have had three head coaches since the 70s and consistently produce playoff teams and championships.
When&amp;nbsp;Arrowhead Pride interviewed Mr. Hunt&amp;nbsp;at the end of September, we asked him about his admiration for the Steelers.

&quot;First of all,&quot; he told us, &quot;I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for the Rooney family, and clearly, the Steelers are one of the model franchises in all of professional sports - as evidenced by their success.
&quot;We want to make decisions that help our football team for the long term, which is something the Rooneys and the Steelers have done extremely well over the years.&quot;
Indeed. The Steelers are currently the only NFL team with six championship rings.
The Chiefs head coach, who has a background with the Steelers, was asked if he someday like his team to resemble Pittsburgh.
&quot;That would never be a bad thing,&quot; Haley said. &quot;I think for the Steelers this has been a long time in the making. This is something that was established back in the &amp;lsquo;70s and a blueprint they set about for the entire organization.&quot;
Haley's father worked for the Steelers for years so many folks, including team president Art Rooney II, remember him. &amp;nbsp;Haley says their organization is set to run so that it's successful year in and year out.
&quot;But having that inside knowledge of a lot of the stuff that was going on,&quot; he said, &quot;I know that they set the stage for what they&amp;rsquo;ve stayed for a long time. They&amp;rsquo;re consistently in all areas &amp;ndash; personnel, how they draft, all areas, they&amp;rsquo;re very consistent in nature. They don&amp;rsquo;t panic. If things don&amp;rsquo;t go real well early they don&amp;rsquo;t panic; they&amp;rsquo;ve proven that over the years.&quot;

  It's been a few weeks since we had a little Q&amp;A with the SBN blog of the Pittsburgh Steelers upcoming opponent. Let's get back to it with a few questions from me for Arrowhead Pride, an immensely fast paced and popular blog. Considering just how sorry the Chiefs have been the past two years, it's remarkable just how vibrant and heavily populated a site Chris Thorman and his brother Joel (who I exchanged these questions with) have built.

I don't venture outside of the NFL very often. The majority of my news sources are focused on the NFL and other than catching a score here or there, or checking out future NFL players, I can't say I'm a big college football junkie.&amp;nbsp; However, I have been following the tail end of this mess with KU and head coach Mark Mangino.
The story's been hot on sports talk radio in Kansas City but here's a quick version: KU athletic director Lew Perkins held a meeting with the KU football players concerning some stories of verbal and physical abuse from current and former players.&amp;nbsp; An independent and unbiased person will conduct an internal investigation into the allegations.&amp;nbsp;
The allegations have the majority of afternoon radio time devoted to determining what will come of this.
Chiefs WR Bobby Wade played under head coach John Mackovic at Arizona and experienced a similar situation from the players view. Mackovic was under similar circumstances to Mangino where former and current players were complaining of verbal abuse from the coach.
Wade talked about these experiences on 810 WHB.

Wade points out that when new coaches come in, &quot;a lot of them start to second guess themselves with where they're at and talk about transfers and stuff like that.&quot;&amp;nbsp; Just like a new head coach in the NFL, there's a lot of change in the program with a new head coach.
&quot;The players felt it was getting ridiculous. He thought it was more about him and not the program,&quot; Wade said.
Mackovic reportedly told one of the tight ends that he was a disgrace to his family.&amp;nbsp; This led to a backdoor meeting with some of the players and the school president.
&quot;It was a players only thing,&quot; Wade explained, &quot;and the players went in there and talked to the president and told them what they felt about it.&quot;
Sound a little familiar?&amp;nbsp; Yeah, that's pretty similar to the situation in Kansas.&amp;nbsp; Wade says that it got to the point that some players, mainly the younger ones, let Mackovic &quot;take a lot of the love of the game out of them.&quot;

The Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend and, if history tells us anything, the Steelers are more likely to walk out there with a victory.
The Steelers have won 9 of 13 contests in Arrowhead Stadium including the playoffs. &amp;nbsp;They are the only team with a winning record in Arrowhead that has played at least two games there. &amp;nbsp;Under current head coach Mike Tomlin, the Steelers are 11-9 on the road. &amp;nbsp;Todd Haley's road record is 2-3.
However, the Chiefs tend to do well against coaches making their Arrowhead debut. &amp;nbsp;They have won 25 of 36 games against coaches popping their Arrowhead cherry.
Hard hitting analysis: Steelers win when they score a lot of points, Chiefs win when they stop opponent from scoring a lot of points.
Yes, analysis like this is why you read Arrowhead Pride. Let me explain a little more.
The Steelers are actually similar to the Chiefs in one category and that's games decided by seven points or less. &amp;nbsp;Both teams have won just one of four games in close calls. &amp;nbsp;The Steelers' three losses have come in these games by a total of 12 points.
So, the Steelers don't get blown out. &amp;nbsp;The Chiefs, on the other hand, have been losing by an average of 12 points.

It's amazing how quickly the tides change in the NFL. What once seems destitute and unsalvageable can quickly become exciting and promising. Yet for the Chiefs, one glimmer of hope - namely, the second half of the schedule - has morphed into something rather unsightly.In the months leading up to the 2009 season, it was quite obvious that the early season rotation through the NFC East was going to be a scheduling beast. After all, in all time head-to-head match-ups against various franchises, teams like the Giants, Cowboys and Eagles rank among the toughest. In fact, if you include the Steelers and Jaguars, the Chiefs literally face the five teams with the worst all-time winning %:Team, Chiefs All-Time Record Against (Win. %)New York Giants, 2-10 (.167)Jacksonville Jaguars, 2-6 (.250)Pittsburgh Steelers, 8-17 (.320)Dallas Cowboys, 3-6 (.333)Philadelphia Eagles, 2-4 (.333)So Chiefs fans braced themselves early for this, knowing the storms of this season would prove rough-going in various weeks. But as we watch the season unfold, some things only become more difficult. Before the season, KC fans scoffed at the drama unfolding in the preseason in Denver. The Broncos were the laughingstock of the NFL after Jay Cutler successfully wormed his way out of the Mile High City and Brandon Marshall tried to follow suit. And we dreamed of playing Kyle Orton twice a year. Many believed that was a possible two wins on the schedule and opened up the AFC West wide open. Now, the Broncos sit atop the standings, even with the current losing streak.Another game that seemed to bring hope was the second to last game - a road trip to Cincinnati to play the Bungles, er, Bengals. Once a desperate franchise that housed every shady character this side of the Mississippi (i.e. the Portland Trailblazers from five years ago), now they are dominating the absolutely brutal AFC North division and just defeated the Steelers twice this season. That late game could now have home turf playoff implications for Cincy and that spells bad news for Kansas City.Of course, the Browns and Bills still linger on the schedule and you just never know what can happen week to week in the NFL. But what once was a beam of light on the back nine of 2009 now becomes as potentially frustrating as the front.

Very slim pickings today.

Chiefs coach Todd Haley has mastered the art of praising the opponent, but it&amp;rsquo;s not hype when he says this week&amp;rsquo;s foes, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are the model for what type of program he&amp;rsquo;s trying to build in Kansas City.
&amp;ldquo;That would never be a bad thing,&amp;rdquo; Haley said. &amp;ldquo;This has been a long time in the making for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is something that was established back in the &amp;rsquo;70s, a blueprint they set about in the entire organization.&amp;rdquo;
Using Pittsburgh as the model goes beyond the fact the Steelers have won two of the last four Super Bowl games, last season&amp;rsquo;s included.
Chiefs notes | Steelers are what Haley hopes his team can be from KC Star

&amp;ldquo;Without a doubt, my memories of the Steelers will never be taken away,&amp;rdquo; said Haley. &amp;ldquo;It was a phenomenal time to grow up in Pittsburgh and then to actually have a connection to the Steelers through my father and me getting to work for them in a much lower capacity. Those are tremendous, tremendous memories.
&amp;ldquo;The year they went back to the Super Bowl a few years ago (2005) when they played Seattle, they showed all the old [TV] clips and my wife elbows me and says, &amp;lsquo;are you crying?&amp;rsquo; They&amp;rsquo;re great, great memories and there are still a lot of people there who mean a lot to me.&amp;rdquo;
Was he crying watching tape of the Immaculate Reception and like moments from Steelers history?
&amp;ldquo;She knows I&amp;rsquo;m a pushover,&amp;rdquo; Haley said with a smile. &amp;ldquo;I cry at commercials.&amp;rdquo;
Haley Suffers From Hypocycloids &amp;hellip; Friday Cup O&amp;rsquo;Chiefs&amp;nbsp;from Bob Gretz

Lance Long can&amp;rsquo;t afford bad days or sick days. Can&amp;rsquo;t deliver a lazy practice or run a sloppy route. Long has to be almost perfect. Otherwise, someone might notice that he doesn&amp;rsquo;t seem to belong as a Chiefs wide receiver.
&amp;ldquo;I&amp;rsquo;ve been through a few obstacles in my life in the football sense,&amp;rdquo; Long said this week. &amp;ldquo;You&amp;rsquo;ve just got to keep playing and keep going.&amp;rdquo;
Long has his big chance with the Chiefs from KC Star

Football returns to Arrowhead Stadium this weekend as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In case you didn't know, the Steelers are the defending Super Bowl Champions and have a pretty good defense. And a good quarterback.
It's going to be a tough one for the Chiefs this weekend. I've put together three random things I expect to happen this weekend.
Unfortunately, one of those random things is not a Chiefs win. Don't worry - I'm still going to pick the Chiefs to win in my game day prediction. But it's Friday and objectivity rules today. This Steelers team is a huge challenge for the Chiefs
Talking expectations, after the jump.

Increased load for RB Kolby Smith
I know people are saying Jamaal Charles should be getting the majority of the carries for the Chiefs but I don't see that happening. I think Charles' increased load last weekend was a placeholder tactic until Kolby Smith is up to speed.
RB Jamaal Charles had 18 carries last weekend - tied for his career high in rushing attempts. Charles had 18 carries against Tampa Bay last season but no more than 7 carries in any other game.
My point? Jamaal Charles is not ready to be an every down back and probably never will be. Fumbles anyone?
That's why I think we'll see RB Kolby Smith carry the ball more than the 9 times he did last week.
The Pittsburgh offense won't be scary (but they'll be pretty good)
The Steelers' offense is pretty middle of the road - 15th in points; 9th in yards; 8th in passing yards; 17th in rushing yards.
They're bolstered by a top notch defense that ranks second in the NFL in yards allowed per game and first against the run. This strong running defense is also a reason I think we'll see Kolby Smith more.
We're all pretty familiar with the Steelers style of play - less than flashy offense; grinding defense. And I think that's the exact combination we'll see this weekend.
QB Ben Roethlisberger won't screw up this week
Last weekend, here's what Ben Roethlisberger had to say about his team's loss to the Bengals:
&quot;You know what? I had a bad day,&quot; Roethlisberger said Thursday, the first time he has talked to reporters since the game. &quot;Everyone in here's had a bad day. ... I flat out had a bad day, and it's going to happen sometimes. It's just unfortunate that when the quarterback has a bad game, it affects the whole offense. That's why you can't afford to have too many bad games.&quot;
I'm secretly a huge Big Ben fan because I think he's arguably the first quarterback I'd pick up if I was building a team. It's not in his nature to have two bad games in a row, especially against an inferior team like the Chiefs.
Defensive match ups and all other analysis aside, I have a gut feeling that Roethlisberger will have a big day against the Chiefs. Like I said above, I don't think the Steeler offense is going to put up 40 points. But I do think we'll see a solid quarterbacking day from the Steelers' QB - perhaps a 65+ completion percentage, 250+ yards and a passing TD.
***
Those are three of my expectations for this weekend. What are some of yours?

Former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and current CBS announcer Rich Gannon will team with Ian Eagle in this Sunday's broadcast of the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Gannon weighed in on the current four game suspension for Dwayne Bowe with the folks at 810 WHB and also touched on how the rotating group of receivers affects Matt Cassel as a quarterback.

&quot;Another disappointing notch on his belt for this guy,&quot; Gannon said.&amp;nbsp; &quot;He hasn't been the player he thought he was going to be. He's been inconsistent.&amp;nbsp; I think his focus has been and down and his production has been up and down.&amp;nbsp; This is really disappointing.&quot;
I would agree with Gannon that this is disappointing but it's a stretch to say he he hasn't been the player he thought he was going to be and his production has been up and down.
His first two seasons in the NFL and he has over 2,000 receiving yards.&amp;nbsp; For a position that usually takes a little longer to develop. Bowe certainly acted (and produced) like a No. 1 receiver right off the bat.&amp;nbsp; He's definitely having a down year for now and, after the suspension, his numbers will be way down.
&quot;And if it turns out it is a diuretic, that's even worse,&quot; Gannon continued. I was interested to hear the take of a former player on taking a diuretic.&amp;nbsp; Gannon called this an &quot;unacceptable&quot; mistake.
&quot;You look at the premier receivers in the game,&quot; he said, &quot;they take great care of themselves and pride themselves in their preparation all week.&amp;nbsp; Part of your responsibility is taking care of your body, especially at that position, all year round.&quot;
Gannon called the rotation at wide receiver a &quot;dysfunctional&quot; situation for Matt Cassel.&amp;nbsp; He says that his 17 years in the NFL have taught him that lots of time with your wide receivers, especially in the offseason, is critical to success.&amp;nbsp; The Chiefs could and will likely feature a set with only receivers signed within the last two months.
&quot;You gotta feel for Matt Cassel,&quot; Gannon said.

    <description>If Todd Haley looks across the field at Mike Tomlin on Sunday afternoon and feels a twinge of envy, could anybody blame him?

It does seem as though opportunity is served in silver goblets to some people, while others pick through shards and scraps.

Haley's grueling maiden voyage as a head coach in the NFL has been marked by failure, controversy, frustration and setback.

  But [Derrick] Johnson, who turns 27 on Sunday, does still have some value. If the collective bargaining issues render him a restricted free agent, there is speculation in league circles the Chiefs could give Johnson a second-round tender offer and hope another NFL team that covets him is willing to give up an NFL draft choice.

    <description>This Chiefs season could all be tied together with one sentence - the poor get poorer. Not only did the Chiefs, coming off the worst campaign in franchise history, have to adjust to new coaches and schemes this year, but were stuck with arguably the toughest five games to start the season of any team in the league.

    <title>Experts Pick the Steelers, Fans Pick the Chiefs</title>
    <description>

  Usually I think that internet polls with 35,000 respondents is fairly accurate.&amp;nbsp; One extreme will usually balance out the other and you'll get a good picture of what everyone thinks.
But then again a lot of people hate the Steelers.....or love the Chiefs. Probably the latter but a poll on NFL.com shows a whopping 79% of voters think the Chiefs will defeat the Steelers.&amp;nbsp; That's 35,718 votes as of this posting (Confession: I voted twice).
NFL Network had three folks make a pick. All three - Brian Baldinger, Sterling Sharpe and Joe Theismann - picked the Steelers.
10 point favorites?&amp;nbsp; That's the smart move.&amp;nbsp;
ESPN followed suit with all of the experts picking the Steelers.

I wonder why the Steelers aren't getting more votes.&amp;nbsp; I had always figured they had one of the largest fanbases.
Maybe Steelers fans don't know how to use the computer....Zing!&amp;nbsp; Just kidding....

In early October the Kansas City Chiefs worked out a wrestler, who had never played football before.&amp;nbsp; It seemed a bit odd, at first, but we just chalked it up to the Patriots connection, since he had previously tried out with the Patriots.
Today, Todd Haley talked a little more about wrestlers and why they might make good football players.
&quot;I love wrestlers from the standpoint of balance if nothing else,&quot; Haley said, &quot;linemen who have been wrestlers, too. A lot of times when he&amp;rsquo;s been a wrestler he has a little lower of gravity and not built for speed so much.&quot;
Haley was talking about wrestlers because a reporter pointed out LB Jovan Belcher's background as a high school All-American wrestler.&amp;nbsp; He said Belcher doesn't have the body of a typical wrestler but his background can never hurt.
&quot;But I think that does nothing but help you,&quot; he said. &quot;There isn&amp;rsquo;t anything tougher than that. You go in those wrestling rooms and it&amp;rsquo;s 100 degrees and a lot of sweat.&quot;
Interesting.&amp;nbsp;
It makes sense though that wrestlers could potentially make for a good NFL body.&amp;nbsp; Wrestling and offensive or defensive line play can't be that far off.&amp;nbsp; As Haley says, it certainly can't hurt.
Any wrestlers who have played football out there?&amp;nbsp; I'd be interested to hear your take on this.

I don't have any inside information on this but from many accounts it's looking like LB Mike Vrabel will not play for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.&amp;nbsp; He's hit an injury patch the last two weeks and both sides might figure it's best to take a game off.
Bob Gretz reports that it's doubtful Vrabel will be available to play against the Steelers on Sunday. Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star said, &quot;Mike Vrabel didn't practice again today. I'd count him out for Sunday. And the next Sunday. And maybe the next Sunday, too.&quot;
If that's the case, Andy Studebaker would take his spot.&amp;nbsp;
Interesting fact: Studebaker signed with the Chiefs exactly one year ago today.&amp;nbsp; Happy....signing day?
Vrabel was listed on the injury report last week for a hip injury but still started against the Raiders.&amp;nbsp; Midway through the third quarter he came out for some sort of knee injury.&amp;nbsp; Studebaker took his spot for the rest of the game.
He did a good job in place of Vrabel, considering the circumstances.&amp;nbsp; He admits to a few mistakes in his quarter and a half of action.
&quot;You are never as good as you think you are and never as bad as you think you are,&quot; Studebaker said via BobGretz.com.&amp;nbsp; &quot;I left the game and thought I fit in the defense pretty well, but at the same time I made some mistakes too. This week, I&amp;rsquo;m working on minimizing those.&quot;
In other linebacker news, Justin Rogers was listed as a limited participant in today's practice with a thigh injury and LB David Herron was back on the field after missing practice and the game last week with a knee injury.

    <title>Chiefs In Rare Position of Facing Third Straight Road Blackout</title>
    <description>

Blackouts haven't yet become a major part of the conversation for the Kansas City Chiefs season. With a favorable home schedule the Chiefs haven't been talking much about blackouts....at least not blackouts at Arrowhead.
The Chiefs road schedule has been strange the past few weeks because the team has played in two stadiums that did not officially sellout according to NFL standards.
The Chiefs lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars amidst 45,000 people or so. &amp;nbsp;The game did not sell out and was not shown on TV in Jacksonville.
The Chiefs then traveled to Oakland to take on the Raiders last week. &amp;nbsp;I've heard from a few people who say the 40,000 or so in announced attendance is a generous, generous number.
The weekend after this, however, the Chiefs are back on the road and, as of now, it appears the Chargers will not sellout.
&amp;ldquo;It is extremely unlikely that we will sell 1,000 tickets a day for the next seven days,&amp;rdquo; said Chargers COO Jim Steeg.
This means that the Chiefs will likely have their third straight road blackout.

    <title>Steelers Sign a Former Chiefs LB</title>
    <description>

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed LB Curtis Gatewood&amp;nbsp;to their practice squad. &amp;nbsp;If that name sounds familiar, it should.
Gatewood was signed by the Chiefs exactly one year ago today. &amp;nbsp;Weird, huh?
Normally, I would view a situation like this as the Steelers trying to glean some inside information on the Chiefs defensive scheme. &amp;nbsp;It's not that unusual for a team to sign a former player of their upcoming opponent and ratchet as much information as they can out of him before the game.
However, with the dramatic changes the Chiefs made to their defense this season, I find it highly unlikely this is the case. &amp;nbsp;
Clancy Pendergast was named the Chiefs defensive coordinator on March 13th. &amp;nbsp;Gatewood was released from the Chiefs on April 21st.
Of the four teams Gatewood has been on in the last year, the Chiefs are the only ones to give him playing time in a real game.
Interesting note: OLB Andy Studebaker could be subbing for Mike Vrabel this weekend. &amp;nbsp;Studebaker was signed the same day as Gatewood last season.

    <title>Three Chiefs Remain Out at Thursday Practice</title>
    <description>

The Kansas City Chiefs listed four players as out on the Wednesday injury report. &amp;nbsp;Today, it looks like at least one of those players will be upgraded.
LB David Herron, who was out all of last week, returned from a knee injury to at least partially participate in practice.
Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com also reports that CB Travis Daniels has been seeing time at nickelback over CB Mike Richardson. &amp;nbsp;This could mean Daniels gets more time on Sunday.
Other Chiefs missing practice include:
LB Mike Vrabel - He's still recovering from a knee injury suffered in last Sunday's win over the Raiders. &amp;nbsp;He came out in the middle of the third quarter and did not return.
Andy Studebaker took first team reps in his place.
G/C Andy Alleman - No word yet on what Alleman's injury is but he was out yesterday as well. &amp;nbsp;Wade Smith has been taking reps in his place. &amp;nbsp;With G Mike Goff headed to injured reserve last week, this is becoming a thin position.
RB Dantrell Savage - He's got an ankle problem and it doesn't bode well if FB Tim Castille was signed and the head coach referenced Savage's injury as a reason for Castille's signing.
As of now it doesn't look good for Savage on Sunday but we'll take a wait and see approach.

    <description>LeBron James, NFL player. Just a fantasy, says New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey.

The Cavaliers' All-Star forward caused a stir this week by saying he could be &quot;really good&quot; if he committed himself to playing football. The remarks set off debate about James' football talents and prompted Browns coach Eric Mangini to joke that James should &quot;come on down&quot; and help his 1-8 team.

Cleveland nose tackle Shaun Rogers initially sacked James' belief. Now Shockey has piled on.

Shakira's hips don't lie and neither do the stats in the National Football League. And the key one here is this: the Chiefs are flirting with setting a new low for this decade in third down completion percentage.That particular stat might sound a little ridiculous or misleading to pull out, but it's really not. It's the stat that keeps the chains moving. It's the stat that keeps the offense rolling and, therefore, the defense well-rested. It's the stat that eats the clock so you can actually control the time of possession game. And it's the stat that allows execution to expose mistakes in the opponents scheme and play-calling.Instead, the Chiefs are doing none of that. There's no rhythm. There's no offensive sync. Instead, there's (usually) two go-nowhere plays followed by a desperation third down pass that (usually) doesn't work. The glaring stat: 20.3. That's the percentage of third down completions for your 2009 Chiefs.Of course, you knew it would be bad. The won-loss record will tell you that much. But a bad team is bad for certain reasons and you have to search to figure out what those things are. And the inability to develop an offensive rhythm will cripple the team in all kinds of other areas:*The Chiefs continue to give up the big gain every week. Yet a defense that's constantly on the field will become gassed as the game goes on - even with Haley's emphasis on conditioning*We'll continue to question the development of our younger players on offense simply because there's not the allowance of any rhythm with the unit.*And ultimately, Matt Cassel needs to be able to execute with a full hand, rather than being forced to think downfield all the time.
More on the stats and what to do after the jump.

  Just how bad is this completion percentage? It's the worst of the decade if it plays out. Sitting at 20.3% is not just horrific. It's historically inept. It's on par with the Chiefs lack of a pass rush in 2008. During the 2007 season, no single team was lower than 30%, with the San Francisco 49ers setting the league low with 31.4%. The same can be said for 2006 (Carolina - 31.1%) and 2003 (Atlanta - 30%). Even the worst teams in those particular seasons were 10% better than the Chiefs in 2009.In fact, you have to go back to the 2005 season to find a team that's been even close to Kansas City's ineptitude in third down situations. And that year was Alex Smith's rookie year at QB for a Niners team that finished with a 24% completion rate. So what do the Chiefs do with this information? Well, a few things come to mind:1. Certainly this cannot continue. At least I'd hope not. We think the toughest part of the schedule was on the front end, but that percent might drop even lower after Pittsburgh this week. And that end of December game against the Bengals now looks as menacing as any other game on the slate this season. Two against the Broncos, one against the Chargers and that means it might be tough. But a number that low is just so bad that you have to believe it can't continue. (Gulp)2. The offensive line and running game *have* to become an off-season priority. You simply have to be able to move the chains on first down to balance the offense. The investment we made in Matt Cassel has to be only the first half of it. The second half of the investment must be in protecting the first half. And this is where Pioli's long-term plan comes into play. After all, you cannot fix every hole on a team in one season. Thus, I would assume that three of our first four draft picks (one 1st, two 2nd, one 3rd) will focus on the offensive line and/or running game. And if not, then that means we probably picked up a solid FA on the O-line. 3. Re-think the importance of the tight end. It's been noted several times (here and other places) that Haley simply doesn't care too much for the tight end position - at least in the ways the Chiefs have been used to it. And you can afford to have Leonard Pope-like levels of stats at that position when you have Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston in your WR corps. But it's going to be a few drafts before the Chiefs have that luxury.The cheapest and quickest way to fix some of the problems is to adjust the offense to include a dynamic pass catcher into the offensive game plan. Wide receivers are so hit and miss and, at this point, we honestly need two more. The latest news from Camp Bowe doesn't help and makes it even more of a priority. Plus tight ends come cheaper and easier to find comparatively. It's not pretty to live through. At the same time, dire statistics like this usually lead to quicker answers - the squeaky wheel gets the grease mentality. Let's hope we're able to confront the problems head-on this offseason with maximum resources and effort.

    <title>Chiefs Fantasy Outlook: Week Eleven vs Pittsburgh Steelers</title>
    <description>

Predictions from Week Ten can be found here.&amp;nbsp; The predicted numbers and the actual numbers for last week can be found at the end of this article.

In a word, the outlook is bleak. No D-Bowe. Improving but sub-standard O-line. #4 defense in the league. Not good. If the Chiefs explode on the fantasy scene it will be a shock.
The Steelers have yet to allow a 100 yard rusher all year.&amp;nbsp; The highest single game rushing&amp;nbsp; total was 76 yards by Cedric Benson in week 3. Pittsburgh has even held the mighty Adrian Peterson to 69 yards, albeit with one touchdown.&amp;nbsp;
If dreams of no Troy Polamalu have you itching to try your fantasy luck, keep in mind that Polamalu has only played in 6 of the Pittsburgh's 10 games this season. He's been hobbled to boot. The Pittsburgh D is incredible with Polamalu. They are merely great without him.
Bleak.
There were a lot of of injuries last week in the NFL that may force you to consider a Chief. Especially at running back. Ronnie Brown, Cedric Benson, Brian Westbrook and Michael Turner all went down last week. Placing a Chief in any injury roster holes on your starting lineup will probably bring you nothing but heartbreak, but stranger things have happened.
Three Chiefs and a sleeper after the break.

Jamaal Charles
The performance turned in by Charles last week was a vindication of sorts for many Chiefs fans. Charles finally showed what kind of back we all envisioned he could be when drafted. Given the opportunity on the field.18 carries. 103 yards. It was the 44 yard dash sprung by his blockers in the second level that was the most encouraging. Charles is a home run threat. All he needs is a little space. Space will be at a premium this week though. There's a good chance that Charles gets shut down this week. Start him if you have to, but&amp;nbsp; keep the expectations low and hope he breaks one.
Jamaal Charles Prediction: 54 yards rushing, 5 receptions, 20 yards receiving, 0 TD

Chris Chambers
Last week I wasn't sold on Chris Chambers as a fantasy play. I'm still not totally sold, but Bowe's poor judgement has increased Chambers value immensly. There is no longer a true number 1 WR on the Chiefs squad. Chambers has at least had experience in the role as a Dolphin. Chambers still has a lot to learn about the playbook. He's going to have the opportunity to learn on the job. The Steelers seconday has looked suspect at time, but any weaknesses they have are masked by a ferocious pass rush. KC remains number two in the league in sacks allowed. Not a good combo. May not be the week to start Chambers. Might be the week to snatch him off the waiver wire though.
Chris Chambers Prediction: 5 catches 72 yards, 0 TD

This is the come to earth edition. Long was only targeted 4 times last week. He had two catches and dropped one ball in the first quarter he probably should have caught. His true value probably lies somewhere between 2 catches for 18 yards and 8 catches for 74 yards. The hope is that he realizes fantasy value by becoming a consistent pass catcher with a steady diet of passes thrown his way every game. If Cassel continually looks elsewhere he falls to a number 4 WR with the potential to be a number 2 fantasy WR on weeks when he gets into the endzone. Bowe's absence may be a blessing in disguise for fantasy purposes when it comes to Long. This four week stretch should give fantasy owners a much better read on who Long is, and if he is worth a look in your draft next year.
Lance Long prediction: 5 catches, 45 yards, 0 TD

Bobby Wade
Wade has been a fantasy puzzle all year. He has shown flashes. His numbers have not been spectacular in large part due to the drops. He has been consistently thrown to though. His punt returning value is non-existent. Wade still seemed to have found his way permanently on the field as the de facto KC #2 WR. The next thing you know Chambers is on the team and Bobby is inactive two weeks in a row. Savage's injury and Bowe's suspension have cracked the door though and Wade is on the field again. Bobby's value&amp;nbsp; this week, as in every week,&amp;nbsp; will be tied to his ability to find the endzone.
Bobby Wade Prediction: 5 receptions, 60 yards, 1 TD
