While Andrew stunk the place up, Cole Hamels held the Marlins to just four hits over seven shutout innings. He has gone 25 consecutive innings without giving up a run, surpassing his previous record of 21 straight scoreless innings. It's always nice to help guys better themselves at our expense. The Fish did finally get on the board in the eighth when they scored six runs, five of which were against former Fish Nate Robertson. (Good to see he's still got it.) Gaby Sanchez hit a three-run homer to end the shutout, Cameron Maybin doubled in two, and Scott Cousins added an RBI double to bring the Marlins within four runs. But six is less than ten, so the Fish still lost.  The End. Andrew Miller is on the hill for the Marlins.  Miller pitched reasonably well in last.  Oh, sure, he got into a lot of jams but he somehow found his way out of them.  As always when BGA pitches he will give up his fair share of hits and walks, but he will strikeout about the same number. Cole Hamels takes the mound for the Phillies.  Hamels is on a bit of a roll having pitched 18 scoreless innings in a row.  His personal best is 21 in a row.  The thing about streaks is that they don't last forever and I can think of no better time to end his string of scoreless inning than tonight.  Hamels, historically, has had some troubles with the Marlins in the past, though he did pitch well in his only start against the team back in April. Joe Frisaro has the best story going about the nomination.  Here is a part of it:   Before Spring Training began, the Northern California native gave his time and energies visiting United States military troops in Kuwait and Iraq. He was part of a group of Marlins' representatives to visit the Middle East to recognize and honor those serving their country. More recently, on July 6, Baker traveled to Haiti six months after the country was devastated by an earthquake. Baker was part of an effort by the Marlins and the Food for the Poor program, which is raising money to build concrete homes in Haiti. It is true, that every team gets a nominee and I'm sure some of the others have done outstanding work.  But I find it hard to believe that any of the others have traveled so many miles to try and bring relief to others.  And it is not only his work around the globe that is impressive, but he has been very present here at home with his work with the Marlins Community Foundation. So if you get a free moment or two, vote for John Baker at: Roberto Clemente Award I will warn you the site loads very slowly, or at least it has for me. But that said, just wait it out and vote for John Baker, you will be glad you did. JJ is flying back to Miami today to see Dr. Kaplan to checkout the problem. Clark Spencer has the story.   Josh Johnson's season is now in jeopardy as the ace of the Marlins' pitching staff will be returning to South Florida on Wednesday to have his back and throwing shoulder examined by Dr. Lee Kaplan.             At the very least, Johnson will miss his scheduled start on Friday. But there are growing concerns that Johnson might be forced to miss the rest of the season, as he has only five more starts left on his pitching calendar and the Marlins might not want to take the risk on their investment. If the Marlins lose JJ for the rest of the season, the Marlins rotation will initially be Anibal Sanchez, Chris Volstad, Andrew Miller, Alex Sanabia and Adalbeto Mendez.  And Volstad and Sanabia will eventually miss a start sometime in the future thanks to the brawl Nyjer Morgan started.  Can't remember a player ever winning an appeal, but sometimes the fine is reduced. We will see what happens with the doctor visit, but if there is any doubt, the Marlins should shut JJ down.  And if they should do this, they will need to make some locker space available since more relief pitching will be needed. It has been a tough year, and somehow the team will complete the schedule.  In a way, I'm almost reminded of the 2005 season, where at the end of the season, almost every starter ended up hurt. Florida Marlins - Sport Snipe - Team News - Stats - Updates http://www.sportsnipe.com/main_sportsnews/2927150/fish-wrap-marlins-7-phillies-8.html More photos » Matt Slocum - AP Browse more photos » It wasn't a pretty game.  The Marlins took an early lead but surrendered it in the fifth when Chris Volstad threw a couple of gopher balls and the Phillies manufactured another run to score three runs to take the lead.  The Marlins would battle back to tie the game but couldn't take the lead due to some pretty crappy situational hitting by some.  That would be as close as they got since the bullpen did what it does best, blowup, and took a late inning loss. The Marlins will try to gain a split of the series tomorrow.  Hopefully BGA will find a way to go deep and keep the pen out of the game for awhile.  And maybe, just maybe, should the situations arise, the Fish will figure out how to score a runner on third with less than two outs. Because if they can, it will bring smiles to Fish fans everywhere to watch the Phillies walk off the field despondent.  I, for one, always like it when they look that way.
