| Link: Judge Judges the Jets Remaing Offseason Needs 10:35:00 pm , 03-13-2010 Clark Judge writes up the Jets needs in a piece for CBS Sports with the Jets needs as he sees them. Although I don’t agree with all the analysis (I need someone to convince me that DL isn’t the biggest priority) it’s a great in-depth article well worth the read.
Cap tip to Adam S. for the heads up.

| Jets Trying to Lock the Door on LaDainian 10:35:00 pm , 03-13-2010 Thomas George of AOL/FanHouse has a great report of all the things that the Jets are doing today to convince LaDainian to sign today, beyond the itinerary, here’s the juicy details from a source inside the team.
… a Jets executive source said, when egos become involved in acquiring a player, the Jets will be hard to beat.
“We want this guy, and when we want a player, we typically go get the player,” the Jets source said. “We have every intention to get him signed before he leaves.”
But Tomlinson has already told the Jets that he wants to think things over, travel back home to visit with his wife, LaTorsha, and pray over all options.
The Jets are praying they can convince him to sign now.
And the courting, the convincing is in full swing.
The Jets are willing to give Tomlinson a two-year contract equal to the two-year, $5 million-deal they would not give to departed running back Thomas Jones, now with Kansas City. They may be willing to move upwards to $3.5 million a year for Tomlinson in a contract loaded with incentives.
…
Schottenheimer is doing what he can to keep the Jets’ interest in Tomlinson keen. He coached Tomlinson in San Diego and has told the franchise that Tomlinson is a model citizen, an important factor to have on the field and in the locker room and a dependable player. He is reminding Tomlinson that since the Jets and Chargers offensive systems and terminologies are similar, the learning curve for the player will be smaller than that with other potential suitors.
“We’ve done the homework and he still has that burst when he is on the perimeter, and though his instincts as a back used to be 10 times better than everyone else, it is still a couple of times better than most,” a Jets executive source said. “He would give us that change of pace back after you pound it and pound it with Shonn. If LaDainian stays healthy, you put him in some of the same situations our other backs were in last year with this offensive line and you will see even bigger production.
“I know he wants to win a championship and that factors heavily into his decision. We think we can accomplish that together.”

| LaDainian Extended His Trip to Have Dinner With Team 10:35:00 pm , 03-13-2010 The web is abuzz Friday night with the news that the Jets are having dinner with LaDainian. While we noted this earlier in the day via the FanHouse report, it was unclear who would be part of the dinner, and Jay Glazer tweeted that the offensive staff, along with Mark Sanchez was out with the running back.
The free agent running back met with team officials at the Jets’ training facility in Florham Park, N.J., on Friday and had dinner with coach Rex Ryan, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and others in New Jersey.
Tomlinson was scheduled to fly back home to San Diego, but changed his flight after arriving so late Thursday night. Because of that, the Jets extended their visit with him Friday to include dinner. There were also no late-night flights to the West Coast available Friday night.
The running back’s itinerary beyond Friday night had not yet been determined, Jets spokesman Bruce Speight said.
The extra face time with Tomlinson could work in the Jets’ favor as they try to persuade him to join the offense that ranked No. 1 in rushing last season. The visit came a day after Tomlinson met with the Minnesota Vikings and left for the New York area without a deal.
Exactly when the extension was made seems unclear, but the Jets took the opportunity and are running with it. FanHouse reported that they were planning on having dinner at Trump National. In other words, nothing new, but stay tuned this weekend. We could be set to pop here.

| Daily Links: Will He or Won’t He? 10:35:00 pm , 03-13-2010
LT seems to be “intrigued” by the role he would have in New York.
Ho! Ho! Ben Nevis is getting some love from The Fifth Down.
The Jets have effectively exchanged CB’s with the San Diego Chargers as former Jets CB Donald Strickland returns to his home state.
Will LT affect LW’s future?
Tannenbaum got to go on WFAN yesterday and noted that Brodney Pool could play a big role this season. He also talked about some of his other stars as well.
Leberfeld believes that these three points could lure LT to New York.
Wes Welker who is rehabilitating from a reconstructed left knee now has to endure the rehab of his shoulder.

| Stirring the Pot: Would Kevin Curtis be a Fit? 10:35:00 pm , 03-13-2010
Everyone’s been talking about adding a slot receiver to this unit. While I believe that Dustin Keller is basically a slot receiver plus a lot more, I understand that the team needs formations that use an actual receiver there rather than a Tight End.
So while there’s been talk about Laveranues Coles joining the team, how about the Eagles’ Kevin Curtis?
According to Scout.com’s Adam Caplan on Twitter — which it’s clearly noted is just his opinion NOT NEWS — the Eagles might be parting ways with the receiver now that they’ve re-signed Hank Baskett to a one year deal.
Curtis (6″0″ 186 lbs.) is a complementary piece and not much more, especially since he’s struggled to stay on the field due to injury. The receiver is due $5.4 MM in 2010 for the Eagles, including a $1 MM roster bonus, so would the team be looking to cut ties? The Jets Assistant GM Scott Cohen came from the Eagles, and was part of the Eagles when Curtis was there, so would be familiar with his abilities.
Curtis is a disciplined route-runner and knows how to set up defenders to create separation with his quickness and strength. Curtis has the ability to make tough catches in traffic, but isn’t physical enough to break tackles or perimeter block … in other words, he’s a slot receiver through and through.
I think that he might be a good stopgap for the slot receiver that seems to be a consensus as a need for the team.

| He Must Have Been Swayed 10:35:00 pm , 03-13-2010 Although it looks like it didn’t come to fruition, the Daily News reported last night on their blog that there was a
… “possibility” that LaDainian Tomlinson will make a decision tonight, according to a person close to the Tomlinson courtship — a strong indication that the Jets will prevail over the Vikings for the future Hall-of-Fame running back.
Obviously there’s no news yet, and I’d be curious to know who said it was a possibility, because if LaDainian made a promise to his wife they’d talk about it together and then didn’t? OOOOO-ee!!! I know how that goes in my house. I can’t imagine it’s much different anywhere else.
If LT was thinking that heavily about it, it means the Jets put on a good pressure package. At this point, they’ve done their best. And that’s all those who would like to see this can ask.
If YOU want to let Tomlinson know you are supportive, hop on Twitter and put the hashtag #LT2NYJ in a tweet and send a message. We started this yesterday, and as you can see, it’s been a rousing success. Antonio Cromartie (his former teammate) even agreed to pass along a heads up to LaDainian about it.

| Prospect Watch: WR Eric Decker 10:35:00 pm , 03-13-2010 As the Jets journey towards the draft in April, we here at TJB will be taking a look into prospects that could be on the Jets draft board. Today we will be taking a look at: Minnesota product, Eric Decker
Projected Round: Late Third or lower.
Measurables: Stands at 6′3. Weighs in at 217 lbs.
Positives: Decker is a very gifted athlete as he has been drafted twice by the MLB. While he doesn’t have incredible speed he is fast enough. He is also able to get seperation between the himself and the defender. He has great hands and will catch pretty much anything, Decker is also a great route runner and is very strong.
Negatives: His blocking isn’t the best (Decker did improve during his final year at Minnesota). He does have some trouble breaking tackles. He is said to be limited to being only a slot/possession receiver (not that really matters considering the Jets are looking for a slot receiver). Decker is set to have surgery on his left foot on March 15 so we won’t really have a good idea of what he can do right away.
The Bottom Line: Decker could very well be one of those late round gems that the Jets could look into late in the draft. However his injury will certainly scare off teams but I wouldn’t count him quite yet. He does have quite a bit of upside …
Decker Highlights:
Check out Decker’s interview about his road to the NFL.
