To be honest, I'm floored by the negative responses to Eddie Jordan's hiring. A poll on reclinergm.com has just 3% of people who wanted him as coach (Avery Johnson was the winner at 27%, followed by Tom Thibodeau at 26% _ Jordan was tied for 6th). It's not that I think Jordan is the greatest coach in the world, and that the Sixers are automatically going to be an elite team in the Eastern Conference. I don't. I wrote on Sunday that the only way the Sixers get better is if Ed Stefanski upgrades the roster. And that would be true if Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach, or the late Chuck Daly were the coach.
OK, you'll point to Jordan's underwhelming _ and under .500 record _ as a career head coach. For the record, he's 230-288. Fine.
