The Super Bowl is over and the timing is good for hockey to step into the American sports spotlight.
One of the game's biggest stars, Alex Ovechkin, is leading a Capitals team that is trying to tie or break the longest winning streak in NHL history. And many of the game's top players will be leaving at the end of the week for Vancouver, where hockey will be the marquee event of a Winter Olympics held in Canada.
Adding to the intrigue is the belief that we'll see more trades this week as general managers try to get their rosters settled before Friday's Olympic roster freeze. San Jose GM Doug Wilson said that was part of his motivation in dealing for Niclas Wallin now instead of closer to the March 3 trade deadline.
Enjoy the attention, hockey, because spring training starts soon.
1. Capitals (last week: 1). Washington has lost just once in 18 games since Alex Ovechkin was named captain on Jan. 5. Yeah, that might have been the right...
