1. The league re-embraces Christmas football.
Nearly 40 years after the longest game in NFL history -- a divisional playoff between the Chiefs and Dolphins -- unfolded after folks throughout the nation had unwrapped their gifts, the league has generally avoided playing games on Christmas.
In 2005, for example, the league moved most of the Week 16 games from Sunday, December 25 to Saturday, December 24, leaving only two games on Christmas.
In 1994, the league did the same thing, putting only one game (Lions at Dolphins) on Christmas Day.
In 1988, the season ended a week before Christmas; the league played one wild-card game on Saturday the 24th (Oilers at Browns) and the other on Monday the 26th (Rams at Vikings).
